Fun Casino 25 Years in Business ‘My Golden Nugget’ by June Howley

Looking back beyond my 25 years in business. Remembering the first moment I saw a group of very attractive female croupiers swish past the reception of the Golden Nugget Casino, London. Most were carrying evening gowns. I wondered what on earth they were going to be doing – and whether I might join them. I was ‘temping’ on their reception and switchboard that evening. Many years later and having spent most of my working life behind a gaming table I still love the games, the atmosphere and the people I’ve met and known in the gaming industry.

Becoming a croupier was my passport to travel. It gave me opportunities to travel and work in some ‘far-flung’ places. Some I’d never even heard of till I got there. Gabon for example, a country tucked into the west coast of Africa, just on the equator. It was handy for malaria whilst there and Pointless questions  ever since. A few years after I’d come out of the business I found I missed it so much I started my own own fun casino business. That was 25 years ago – I’m still passionate about what I do. I still take a pride in how we go about supplying the very best in party entertainment.

Hen Party Wedding Entertainment

Before that though – fun casinos are great for the pre-wedding parties. Here at Aces, we’ve shared the hen party experience many times all with great success.

Here’s one we did, down in the depths of Somerset countryside on a windy night, passing tractors in ditches, moving broken branches from the narrow winding lanes and praying the sat nav was going to lead us there.

No stopping us of course. We’ve NEVER not found our way so far. This pre wedding fun casino entertainment was held in a beautiful old country house. There were twenty four hens to entertain.

A very good time had by all and, as you can see, a very happy bride-to-be presenting a prize to the highest roller.

Have you been thrown in at the deep end and need a little help with planning a Summer Ball or Student Prom Night? Our handy 10 point guide takes you through some of the planning processes and hopefully guide will go some way to helping you organise, advertise, fund and run an excellent event.

1. The Team – The most important factor in making your Ball go well and the organisation go smoothly is to choose a team that can work well together. Assign roles and open up an email trail with your selected members, ensure everyone is on board with the different responsibililities and allow people to have confidence to handle big things such as budget and venue choice.

2. The Theme – Want to make your event fun, distinctive and memorable? Aces Fun Casinos hold stock of Las Vegas themed banners which ensure the casino area stands out. We also offer James Bond 007 Casino Royale themed fun casino nights.

3. The Money – Budgeting is never easy, especially when you’ve no idea how much anything costs. Agree on a budget range, with a ceiling level and break it down into sections. 4. The Venue – Start by figuring out the attendance numbers and Google search for venues with this capacity. 9. The Night – Well done you made it! Finally the date had arrived. If the event is ticketed you’ll need to organise people to meet and greet on the door and collect tickets and to deter unwanted gatecrashers.

10. The Checklist and Legalities:

  •     Additional items for the venue for example if you’re bringing your own wine, table decorations, prizes, music etc. Is there a sound sytem?

A 10,000 dollar win in an Atlantic City Casino is a daily occurrence. But get to 1.44 minutes in the video and you’ll see who the Casino belongs to. Yes, one Donald J. Trump. Purely for the fact they took 10k of Trump’s own money, this clip deserves to be here.

4. Doing the splits at the Blackjack table

In truth this one shouldn’t really be on a list of biggest casino wins. Instead it should be Number 1 for gutsiest/most stupid play ever seen on a Blackjack table, depending on your perspective.

The Blackjack purist would shudder at the site of this hand, pinpointing every low-percentage move this guy makes. But hey, all’s well that ends well.

9. Blood pressure levels through the roof in Vegas

Talk about opposites attract. Husband goes ballistic at a Jackpot win in a Vegas Casino, punching the air, waving his arms and shouting ‘Go baby, go’ no fewer than 28 times (approximately).

His wife meanwhile remains in her chair, calm, thoughtful and quiet, like she was watching Oprah.

It’s probably a good thing the slot stopped paying out when it did because we’re not sure this guy’s heart could have taken much more.

Personalised Fun Money, Photo and Event Date

Here at Aces Fun Casinos we are very used to talking through the part of the day we’ll be helping to entertain the guests. The last thing we want to do is add stress to an already stressful situation therefore we are careful to hear what our brides are saying – how they ‘see’ the casino. We’ll create their own unique fun money, their photo, names and wedding date printed on a note for each guest.

We will arrive at least an hour before we are due to open – even earlier if necessary. We’ll make sure the casino is up and ready to open at whatever time our couple decide. We will hand out the fun money, open the casino and at the end we’ll even provide a nice bottle of bubbly for the highest roller before discreetly dismantling and removing our kit.

Sometimes we are asked the dimensions of our tables – one of our brides to be recently requested we visit her proposed venue before she made up her mind. Now usually, in my experience, people planning their weddings will have exacting criteria – some of which are mentioned above but this lovely lady – or her partner to be more precise, was basing his decision on whether there would be enough room to fit three of our casino tables in! It was and what a great rehearsal it became for their honeymoon in – guess where? Las Vegas – where else!
Having helped entertain the guests at hundreds of weddings in the last sixteen years or so, we know a good venue when we see one and are happy to recommend the ones we think would suit best. Fun Casinos and Job Satisfaction

As told by June Howley, Business Owner of Aces Fun Casinos.

What is it, after twenty years of working in fun casinos – 16 of those with my own business – keeps me enjoying my work?

As a provider of fun casinos I have been asked to attend thousands of different events. These venues range from castles to chip shops, stately homes to narrow boats. We’ve worked on farms, in festivals, race courses and tv studios. We’ve worked in people’s kitchens and even their bedrooms when space was at a premium.

We’ve driven to the middle of nowhere, carted our gear across fields and gardens. We’ve climbed through French windows, slithered through blizzards and held our breath driving through flash floods. Why?

No one stands to lose their income over the turn of a card or the spin of the wheel.

Speaking as someone who spent many years in the gaming industry, working in a variety of casinos in the UK and abroad I can say in all honesty that, apart from the excitement of travelling to new countries and all that entails, I find the fun casinos that I do are far more enjoyable.

Communication – call it banter.

I am able to engage with my players, tell them a yarn perhaps, teach them a little strategy or just have a bit of banter going alongside the game. How very different from the mostly silent and tense games in the gambling halls of the world, where players show no emotion whatsoever or worse, blaming the croupier for their losses.
